If you are planning to buy a new Volkswagen car during the festive season, then now you will have to lose your pocket a little more. Volkswagen India on Wednesday announced a price hike of up to 2 percent across all models in its India range from October 1. Volkswagen Passenger Cars India currently sells models such as Taigun SUV, Virtus sedan, and Tiguan premium SUV in the country.

Volkswagen has blamed rising input costs and said it necessitated the decision to hike prices across the company’s product portfolio. At present, the Tiguan is the most expensive product from the company with prices starting at Rs. 32.79 Lakh (ex-showroom). Then there is the Vertus whose price starts at Rs 11.22 Lakh (ex-showroom) and the Taigun which competes in the mid-size SUV space and is priced starting at Rs 11.39 Lakh (ex-showroom).

Earlier this year, Volkswagen claimed that the Vertus has received excellent customer response despite the stagnant sedan segment in the country. Brand Director Ashish Gupta said that Taigun, which was launched in 2021, is still doing well. Both these models have been developed under the India 2.0 project and the company has established India as a manufacturing hub for exports abroad as well.

However, it is not yet known how much the upcoming price hike will affect buyer sentiments. Especially around the festive season, potential customers usually wait for several deals and offers to finalize their favorite car buying decision.
